Dear River Falls Residents,
It has come to the Board’s attention again that a developer is proposing to put a WaWa, including a store and gas pumps, at the corner of Greatbridge and the Parkway. Many months ago, the Board met with a developer at a monthly Board meeting and strongly opposed the idea.
The Lake Ridge Occoquan Coles Civic Association’s (LOCCA) Planning, Environment, Land-Use and Transportation (PELT) Committee, a group of volunteers that looks at development projects planned for the Lakeridge area, has expressed their opposition to this idea as well. They don’t believe that it is consistent with the Sector Plan for the Government Center and have environmental concerns given the proximity to the child care center right behind the proposed site. This project will require a special use permit which the developer has not filed yet. When they do, we will either invite them to one of our monthly Board meetings and/or attend the LOCCA monthly meeting and make everyone in the community aware of the day and time in advance.
We plan to start a petition opposing the proposed WaWa and will have it available to sign at the Movie at the Pool event, Saturday, September 1st beginning at 6:30 PM. We look forward to seeing you there.
In the meantime, please feel free to share your opinion with our Occoquan District Supervisor, Ruth Anderson, by phone at 703-792-4643 or by email at randerson@pwcgov.org.
